Kate’s Journey

Kate’s journey into health and wellness began when she was 13 years-old. She bought her first book on Buddhism and has fond memories of sitting on her bedroom floor learning how to meditate. Her passion for mindfulness continued to grow while at The College of William & Mary after she took her first yoga class. Growing up as a competitive gymnast, Kate was naturally drawn to the movement of yoga asana. She found that the movement helped to settle her mind while her meditation practice helped her to manage the stress and rigor of studying for classes.

In 2011, Kate received her B.S. in Kinesiology & Health Sciences, and moved to Washington, D.C. to work in corporate healthcare. Kate felt a calling to continue learning about yoga and Eastern philosophy, so she pursued her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher certification from Yoga District. During the training she was introduced to the teachings of Dharma Mittra, Ashtanga, and Power Yoga. While she loved her corporate job, where she indirectly (from a computer) helped patients to live healthier lives, she longed for personal connection. In 2013, she left her desk job, and spent two years biking around D.C. teaching yoga and meditation classes while she immersed herself in the beautiful, compassionate, and transformative teachings of Swami Kripalu. In 2015, she received her 500-Hour Professional Kripalu Yoga Teacher certification. Kate’s love for wholesome movement continued to evolve, and in 2018 she received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2020, she furthered her education and received her specialist certification in Orthopedics.

Since beginning her journey into yoga and meditation, Kate has taught over 3,000 hours of yoga and has designed and led two 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training certification programs. She currently works as an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist, and continues to teach yoga and meditation in her community.
